Welcome to the Mohammed Webb Foundation blog! All announcements and updates will be posted here.

Salam everyone!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

We started talking about Miraj this week, and it is so exciting! We talked about “buraq” what prophets, Muhammad s.a.w met at each heaven and what angel jibril told the prophet each step of the way. Also talked about Salah/prayer, how it went from 50 to 5, and what the names of the prayers are. I think this topic brings on great conversation, we will go more into detail in two weeks.I will not be here on Sunday so Eman the T.A will be subbing for me, I will have worksheet emailed to her to give to the class to fill out which they should be able to do with their notes

Salam everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well. Had a fun class this week, we played jeopardy, well started the game after we did a review sheet going over information from the past few weeks, we only got into 4 questions so will continue to play next week, I split up groups it is boy girl mixed, seems to be working out ok.  No one got candy this week because we were toooooo chatty!
We will be moving on to talking about prophets journey to heaven (miraj) I am very excited to teach about this! I plan to bring in more books and visual aids to show the class about this, I think it will be great!

Please remind the kids of the no touch policy, I had a lot of kicking, touching, hitting, and unnecessary throwing of objects last week. I will send the kids out of the classroom if they cannot keep their hands and legs to themselves, even if it’s in fun and games, someone can get hurt. Thanks! Hope everyone has a great week! See you next week!

4th/5th Seerah Updates

Salam parents!

Hope everyone is doing good and staying healthy!

Much better class this week, thank you to all of you who talked with their kids it is greatly appreciated, everyone was very attentive and had some great comments and questions. We talked about patience and how our Prophet was patient with those who did not want to follow his teachings and tried to do bad things with him. Also about Qiyamah and how our good deeds weigh out our bad deeds.

Interesting questions arose, some kids asked why do we fear Allah, if we should have so much love for Him and his teachings he sent us through our Prophet, the analogy I told them was the example of cheating in a test, how we fear getting in trouble from our teacher and failing , but also fear our parents will find out and be upset with us, just like our life is a test and Allah is testing us and hoping we all do the right things so we are not punished by Him on the day of judgement, but at the same time our parents love us and forgive us, and Allah is most forgiving and most loving, (also bringing in the importance of repentance) they very well understood this and hopefully it will be something that will stick with them forever!

We will play jeopardy next week on the notes we took for the assigned family members we all presented on, I asked the kids to review their notes and we will do a quick review before we play as well

Have a great rest of your week!

Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Sunday, February 26th. Because teachers will be meeting during their non-teaching hours on Sunday, there are limited slots available. Parents are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. If none of the times available work for you, please email your child’s teachers to set up a phone conference.

Salam everyone!

I am so proud of my students who came in with their research and points on their assigned person yesterday! Everyone so confidently came up infront of the class and spoke so nicely, loudly and clearly. Excellent work!!

I had the rest of the students take notes, as I will have a worksheet with questions on it next week to fill out on all the notes they took. We will put our leaves on our tree next week.

Any feedback is appreciated about this research assignment, was it to easy to hard to confusing? Pls do let me know!

Hope you all have a great week!

Happy new year! Welcome back! Hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break, and all ready to get back to the grind! We still had 8 kids missing from class today, hope to see all back next week, I know a couple of you went

We still had 8 kids missing from class today, hope to see all back next week, I know a couple of you went over seas, hope everyone makes it back safe and sound. So as mentioned in the last email, we will start on our “Family Tree” project next week. I thought to start out with Prophet’s grandfather, and move down from there, to parents, and then Prophet’s families himself, including his children, and wives, and grandchildren. I think that the wives played a significant role and are wonderful role models for us to learn about so will be touching on each of his wives as well.

I have assigned each of the kids a person from his family for their “leaf” on the tree, I expect them to learn a little about their person, write one signifiant characteristic and they should be able to come up to the front of the class and teach about their assigned person. I will be bringing the tree, and some leaves, for those who asked me to make it for them and construction paper for those who want to create and make their own in class.  We will most likely be working on this for the next two weeks. Those who were not here, I will send you your child’s assigned person, please let me know if you will not be here for the next two weeks,

Assalam alaikum everyone! Welcome back after last weeks long weekend, hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

Thank you to all the parents who came in to meet me for parent teacher conferences, it was a pleasure meeting all of you! For those parents who could not make it and have questions or concerns, please feel free to email me any time!

We had a good class today, although the kids came back after break, I had them give me a quick overview of what they remember from the previous class and they all remembered and were able to relay a lot of the information back to me, probably because we played bingo with m&m’s to eat, that is definitely something that would make the material stick!! 😉

This week we talked about the revelation of the Quran to the Holy Prophet, how it happened, how he felt and what the result of his meetings with Angel Jibril were. This will conclude this semester and we will be taking the midterm on December 18th, before the two week break. The kids were provided with study guides, which are all worksheets and notes we did in class all combined in one with the same questions and the same answers, we have covered the answers repeatedly so they shouldn’t have any problems with it, if they do its ok! We will review again next week. I am thinking of doing a “jeopardy” type review session to make it fun and to make it stick 🙂 I have attached the study guide with the answers.

For those who will be absent on the 18th (two parents have already told me they will be absent, I will let them take the test next week on their own) please email me and let me know I will let them take the test next week as well.

Lastly, I had a parent ask if there were any chapter books related to the life of Prophet/Islam that the kids can read in addition to their regular school reading that they have (fiction and nonfiction books) if anyone has any ideas or good books for this age group , please send us all an email, all of the class email addresses are in this email, you can reply all and talk to everyone’s parents of the kids in this class. I will also research and look around and let you know if there are any books that would be good for them. Also any other suggestions, something we need to add into the class, take out of the class, please be open and send me any ideas that you have!!

Ok so maybe not “lastly” 😉 but when we come back after the new year, we will do an art project, which will be the family tree of the Prophet, InshAllah. I am excited to present this to the class too!

Everyone, have a wonderful week! And again I am blessed to be teaching a wonderful group of kids, May Allah bless you all and keep you and your children in His protection, Ameen!!

4/5 Seerah Class Updates

Salam everyone,
Another fun class we had last Sunday! I gave the kids a little quiz on family members of our Prophet, those who were not here were allowed to do it with a partner, they all did very well, this was on the names of the father, grandfather, uncle, mom and when they passed away in the early years of his life, how the Kaaba became a place of worshipping idols, how the people of Arabia started to do bad things and what bad things they did, and how the Prophet brought back the message of Allah back to them. I was happy to see them retaining all of the information and how excited they were to yell out the answers and get them right!!
The new lesson will be starting on Khadijah and their marriage.
I will be making a simple study guide for all the points the kids should know by now, this will be very similar to the test that will come after thanksgiving break.
Also please let me know if you have any concerns and I am always open to suggestions and ideas!
Have a great week!

4/5 Seerah Class Update

Assalam alaikum!
Class went well on Sunday! We played a fun game of taboo! Boys took the lead! It was exciting! All got rewarded and I am so happy they studied and had all the right answers!
This class I did a little family tree of our prophet, they have the names written in their  notes, I will have them fill out a worksheet with those names and the relationships which I hope they can do on their own! So they need to just review before they come to class!
Have a great rest of your week!
