KG/1st Class Update for Arabic/Qur’an

These past 2 weeks we introduced the children to the letter Mim and Nun. The sound of Mim is just like the letter “M” and the sound of Nun is just like the letter “N.” The words we taught with these letters were Masjid (mosque) and Naar (fire). To involve the students with the letter Nun, we wrote out Surat Al-Nas on the white board and had the students identify the letter Nun throughout the surah. Alhamdulillah the students were able to do this with no difficulty. As always we reviewed the letter with alif, wow, and ya (long vowels) and fatha, duma, kasra (short vowels).

We have also covered numbers 1-10. The 2 numbers we learned these past 2 Sundays were Tisa’ah (9) and ‘Ashrah (10).

As always, please continue to practice and review previous letters with your child. One hour a week every Sunday is not enough time for any child to master the Arabic alphabet. The homework sent home is designed for our students to work on it every day for a little bit. Repetition is key when learning to recognize letters.

Jazakallhu Khayrun,
Lama Sharaf
